GRANTS

The generous support of the Wenner-Gren Foundation, which helped delegates from Central and Eastern Europe attend the EAA meetings in the past, has been limited this year due to the world economic crisis. Still, participants coming from the below listed countries* may apply for a grant. The EAA will distribute the grant sum among as many candidates as possible, resulting however in smaller subvention for every grantee. The EAA therefore asks all candidates to look for local complementary grants or other possibilities of financing their participation.
To be considered for a grant, participants must conform to the following criteria:
- Applicants must be members of the EAA at the time of application.
- Applicants must present a paper/poster or organise a session or round-table.
- Applicants must come from a central or eastern European country (defined below*) and have wages that are paid according to that country’s standard.
- Applicants must supply all required information and must reply to messages from the local organisers by the time of the deadlines that are set.
- Applicants must have a professional training in any of the four fields of anthropology (Wenner Gren Grant criteria).
- Applicants must state the exact amount needed and the expenses to be covered (travelling expenses, accommodation, conference fee).
- Applicants must be able to pay for their own travel costs in advance, as grants will be paid in cash on arrival.
Preference will be given to:
- Organisers of accepted sessions or round-tables whose participants are not exclusively from Eastern European countries.
- Participants with a special recommendation from the EAA Board.
- Participants whose papers have been approved and integrated into accepted sessions.
- Participants who have been recommended by their relevant session organisers.
- Participants who apply for the first time.
- Grants will be evenly distributed among representatives of the different countries.
The closing date for submission of grant applications is 31st May 2009. Applications received after that date will not be considered. Please address your application together with the information about your contribution (title, session/paper/poster, abstract) to the EAA Secretariat at

Grantees who in the event fail to participate in the meeting without good reason and without informing us, or fail to fulfil the criteria (paper, poster presentation) will be excluded from applying for WG grants in the future.
