From 15th to 20th September, the “Palazzo dei Congressi” (Conference Hall) of Riva del Garda will host the 15th EAA (European Association of Archaeologists) Annual Meeting, organised by the “Settore Beni archeologici della Soprintendenza per Beni librari archivistici e archeologici” (Department for Archaeological Goods of the Heritage Office of Archaeological, Archival and Book Goods) of the autonomous Province of Trento and by the Town Council of Riva del Garda, in collaboration with its Museum. Franco Panizza, the spokesman for the Arts of the province of Trento, the town councillors Paolo Matteotti (Riva del Garda) and Ruggero Morandi (Arco), the curator Livio Cristofolini with Franco Nicolis, the director of the Museum Monica Ronchini and the director of the active service unit Gianni Pellegrini take part today in the presentation of the Meeting.

15th Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists
An African delegation amongst the 600 archaeologists
The 15th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (15th – 20th September in Riva del Garda) crosses the European borders. Amongst more than 600 registered people from 40 countries, there are also a few representatives of non-European countries, such as United States, Russia, Serbia, Israel, Canada, Macedonia, Australia, Iceland, Egypt, Japan, Taiwan and Turkey. The Meeting will take place at the Centro Congressi (Conference Hall) and is organised by the Settore Beni archeologici della Soprintendenza per Beni librari archivistici e archeologici (Department for Archaeological Goods of the Heritage Office of Archaeological, Archival and Book Goods) of the autonomous Province of Trento and by the Town Council of Riva del Garda, in collaboration with the Museum of Riva del Garda, which hosts an important archaeological collection.

ON THE ANCIENT SHORES
Neolithic rests of a settlement from the “Culture of squared-mouth vase” in Brione Street,
Riva del Garda

6,000 years ago, the level of the water of the Lake Garda was about three metres higher than it is today and its waters reached out to the Northern glacial plain of Sarca. The history and evolution of the lake and its surroundings, together with other interesting information, is the centre of attention of the exhibition “On the Ancient Shores.

Opening hours: 10am – 12.30pm / 1.30pm – 6pm, closed on Monday; open every day in July, August and September.

Nearly 500 registrations from 40 countries for the 15th annual meeting of the european association of archaeologists
There are less than three months to the 15th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA) and the number of registrations nearly amounts to 500. For the 2009 Meeting, which will take place from 15th to 20th September, Riva del Garda has been chosen by the EAA as the host town.

Trentino hosts the 15th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Archaeologists
From the 15th to the 20th of September, Riva del Garda will be the European capital of archaeology: the town will host the 15th EAA (European Association of Archaeologists) Annual Meeting which will attract in Trentino hundreds of archaeologists from all over Europe and from overseas. This will be the occasion for the participants for an exchange of opinions, in order to foster a debate about the different natures of archaeology in Europe and to encourage cooperation amongst organisations which deal with this discipline.
